Music Teacher Needed: Beginning July 2010

KILU BHUTAN MUSIC SCHOOL, LOCATED IN THE CAPITAL CITY OF THIMPHU IS SEEKING A MUSIC TEACHER FOR A ONE YEAR COMMITMENT TO TEACH PIANO, THOERY AND BASIC SINGING TO OUR STUDENTS. THE CONTRACT STARTS JULY 2010.

About KILU:

Established in March 2005, the Kilu Music School is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Bhutan. It is run as a non-profit institution and it is open to students of any age who want to have a better understanding of the language of music. Classes take place Monday-Friday 3:00-8:00pm and Saturday 9:30am-2:00pm. Currently there are approximately 70 students enrolled and two teachers. Each student receives one half hour individual lesson and one group lesson (1 hour) a week.

What YOUR responsibilities would be as a KILU Music Teacher:

I) Job Description

Strengthen the establishment of the school, the internal organization, and the general management in close cooperation with the administrative officer;

Review and further develop the music teaching curriculum and teaching methods with the current teachers of the school to streamline the teaching and the music classes;

Give music classes in music theory and individual practical classes in instruments to students of the school;

Run day classes for small children i.e. rhythmic classes;

Give an intensive course for potential local music teachers in collaboration with the JOCV volunteer music teacher;

Set up and run potential new classes of music (could be adult classes or a cooperation with some of the local schools regarding day classes in music as part of the school curriculum);

Assist the administrative officer in establishing linkages with recognized institutions;

Assist the administrative officer in raising additional funds for the school through for example the organization of fund raising events such as concerts, music events, music film festival etc, and the development of project proposals;

Develop creative ideas and suggest new initiatives that could benefit the school and expand the programs and activities offered by the School;

Participate in the School's Board meetings; teachers' meetings, and parents' meetings etc; and

Work in close cooperation with the Board, the other teachers, and the administrative officer of the School.

ii) Annual leave:

The employee is entitled to 4 weeks (i.e. 20 working days)

iii) Working hours:

6 hours per day, Mondays to Fridays and on Saturdays 4 hours

iv) Salary

The employee will paid a very good salary in Bhutanese terms that will allow for a comfortable life in Bhutan.
